At an elevation of 1910 meters (6200 feet), the water is fresh, and the lake is surrounded by dense clumps of papyrus (which ancient Egyptians once used to make paper). Kingfishers perch on the papyrus, while herons hide within it as they search for food.
Lake Naivasha is a renowned destination for bird watching, with over 400 species recorded.
