Discover iconic properties

On the edge of Kenya’s Northern Frontier, Lake Turkana —the Jade Sea and the world’s largest permanent desert lake—shimmers beneath vast Rift Valley skies. Termite towers rise from sun-scorched earth as giraffes, gazelles, and ostriches move across horizons that feel older than time. From these primordial shores, early humankind began its epic journey out of Africa—making Turkana not just a landscape, but the birthplace of our shared story.

Leakey Legacy Expeditions

For generations, the Leakey family —the First Family of Paleoanthropology—have led the search for our African origins. Through a decades-long friendship, we’re able to open rare doors to Lake Turkana, where guests witness groundbreaking discoveries firsthand and explore the landscapes that continue to reveal the story of humankind.

Where to stay

On the shores of Lake Turkana, Turkana’s stays range from refined lakeside lodges to intimate desert camps. At Lobolo Camp, stylish tented suites, private decks, a pool, and warm, attentive service create a sanctuary beneath vast star-filled skies—just an eight-hour journey from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.

Discoverable Hidden Gem Experience

South Island National Park sits quietly within Lake Turkana, a volcanic island few travelers ever reach due to complex access and lack of local coordination. Its lava fields, crocodile populations, and birdlife feel almost otherworldly. Esci Travel & Holidays unlocks this hidden realm through precise routing and guided access, transforming a logistical challenge into a rare, deeply immersive encounter at the heart of Turkana’s wild isolation.

Turkana's Key Facts

Turkana is Kenya’s largest county, sparsely populated yet culturally dense, defined by desert landscapes, volcanic geology, and Lake Turkana—the world’s largest permanent desert lake. Infrastructure is limited, distances are vast, and conditions are extreme, making expert planning essential. Esci Travel & Holidays manages all logistics, routing, and timing to ensure Turkana’s scale enhances the journey rather than complicates it.
