Elephant Watch Camp is beautifully decorated with exotic colours and fabrics and sits on the sand banks of the Ewaso Nyiro River. Hosted and owned by Oria Douglas Hamilton, the camp is very much geared towards elephant research and conservation, and is closely linked with Save the Elephants, Oria’s husband Iain’s organization – both are famous for their pioneering work with conservation throughout East Africa.
Elephant Watch Camp is totally eco friendly, and maintains a very low footprint on the environment – there is no waste, no pollution, no noise. Tents here are colourful and comfortable, with bathrooms built around trees, giving guests a unique showering experience.
Each of Elephant Watch’s specialized guide know all of the elephant families by name and personality, making for an absolutely unique and magical elephant experience. The Samburu warriors will also take guests on bush walks along well trampled elephant paths, collecting medicinal plants or honey as you go. Sometimes you can witness the great river crossings of the Samburu’s camels and cattle, and see the true culture of this beautiful nomadic tribe.
